Active Army Tuition Assistance

Overview:

The Army Continuing Education System (ACES) TA Program provides financial assistance to active duty soldiers in support of their professional and personal self-development goals.

Note: ACES provides the education policy/guidance to all three Army components and is the proponent agency for AR 621-5.

Eligibility:

  • Currently serving Active Duty soldiers*
  • Includes Title 10/32 soldiers in AGR status
  • Officers must serve 2 years after course completion
  • Enlisted must have enough remaining obligation for the length of the course

Benefit: (effective 1 Oct 2003)

  • 100% of tuition up to $250 per credit hour
  • 100% of authorized fees
  • $4,500 max per soldier, per fiscal year, including fees
  • One credential at the associate, bachelor or master degree level and a vocational/technical certification;
  • Courses can be taken in classroom or via distance learning (DL)
  • Using ACES and the MGIB Soldiers may receive ACES TA and the MGIB-AD at the same time through the MGIB ‘Top Up’ program
    • Top Up will pay whatever ACES TA does not up to the full-time MGIB-AD rate

How to Apply:

  1. Apply to an accredited school/program
    • School must be accredited by a regional or national accrediting association recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. Click here or contact SocGUARD at 1-800-368-5622 or shapirom@aascu.org to see if your college is accredited.
  2. Submit a DA Form 2171 (request for TA) to the Education Office at your servicing or nearest Active Army installation
